Muse of Fire. UK. Acorn tv

Shakespeare lover alert: this documentary is for you. Two actors/filmmakers decide to search out Shakespearean actors as well as just folks to discuss Shakespeare’s plays. Along the way they are able to catch up with Jude Law in the production of Hamlet performed in Denmark; a random community theater owner in Massachusetts; Harold Bloom, author/editor of a myriad of literary criticism and recognized authority on Shakespeare; Dame Judi Dench; Sir Ian McKellen; and Baz Luhrmann, whose Romeo +Juliet first sparked their interest in Shakespeare. And there’s a host of other actors plus people on the streets of England and the US expressing admiration, fear, and/or confusion with the words of Shakespeare. I loved the different approaches to the Bard and the discussion of iambic pentameter. Try a free week of Acorn tv to check this out. You won’t regret it. 🎥🎥🎥🎥

The New York Times Presents Framing Britney Spears. US. Hulu

When I saw a comment from my niece about watching this show, my interest was piqued, and then I saw an apology of sorts by Justin Timberlake soon after its release. What an eye-opening documentary examining the events surrounding the conservatorship put into place 12 years (!!!) ago. My sons were never Britney fans, so I didn’t pay much attention to her music, but details of her life were always fodder for the press, and who didn’t see that clip when she shaved her head? The documentary examines this American tragedy, which is still unresolved. Check it out for yourself.  🎥 ðŸŽ¥ ðŸŽ¥ ðŸŽ¥

Palm Springs. US. Hulu

I started seeing this film nominated for awards, so I decided to find out what all the hoopla was. So glad I did — what a fresh take on that Groundhog Day idea! There’s a sci-fi element added to the rom-com aspect of the film, which gives it a nice extra touch. It’s a wedding day in Palm Springs, and we see Nyles, a wedding guest, inappropriately dressed for the wedding. He also grabs the mike and makes a speech, horrifying the family of the bride. But all is explained as he escapes the wedding and runs to a sort of cave with the bride’s sister, Sarah, following him. He yells at her not to follow him, but she persists, and — I won’t go any further, but you can guess a little bit of what happens next.  Enjoy this light-hearted exploration of what it means to be alive.  🎥🎥🎥🎥
